Cake Toppers, Centerpieces and Other ProductsNew Mexico artist Vicki Van Vynckt creates each of our cake toppers and centerpieces by hand, using such materials as fine ribbon, lace, silk flowers, shells and paper.The cake toppers are lightweight enough to sit atop a wedding cake, but sturdy enough to serve as table centerpieces. Pieces designed specifically to be table decorations often are reinforced with a sturdier base. If you are using a piece on your wedding cake, make sure that it will fit. Ask your caterer or cake decorator for the diameter of the top tier of the cake. To fit comfortably on a 6-inch (15 cm) tier, a cake topper should have a base no wider than 5 inches (11.4 cm) in diameter. Larger pieces can be used on tiers of 8 inches (20 cm) or larger in diameter. The larger toppers make excellent centerpieces for the bridal table or even all the tables at your party (we offer discounts when you order more than three toppers). It is a good idea to order your topper well in advance so that your caterer or cake decorator knows how it will look on the cake. Vicki's toppers tend to be a bit larger and more dramatic (and prettier!) than the standard topper, and the decorator can plan the cake decorations to harmonize with the topper. Because the cake toppers are made by hand, no two are exactly alike. Although the photos will give you a good idea of what a particular topper or centerpiece will look like, a given piece may vary somewhat from the photo. While Vicki makes every cake topper as sturdy as possible, the use of lightweight base materials such as plastic foam requires that you handle these items carefully.
